Food & Drink

Rinascimento cuisine has developed over the years from Geek Movement during the 2010's. The style of cuisine emerged from a need to add food to be an additional identifier to Rinascimento, so the styles origins come from a mix of inspirations from Medieval, American, Italian, Spanish, and British cuisine. Dishes are generally made from pork, turkey, chicken, beef, peacock, fish, vegetables, beans, and breads. It is common to see an addition of cheese or honey.

Some people refer to Rinascimento as modern medieval cooking, when trying to describe the cooking in 2010, since it was linked to Fantasy. When Rinascimento cuisine is compared to actual medieval cooking it vaguely has any similarities to it.

History

During The Gamer Dark Ages, Rinascimento urban culture was lead by a gaming lifestyle based on convenience. In this era there was no types of food that anyone could call Rinascimento at the time. People would eat take out food such as fast food or microwavable dinners...snacks were very popular during this time especially in towns and cities which had Card Store gamers could go to. People who attended Card Houses were usually Deulers. After a long days of work/school they would go to a Card House to relax by using their cards to Study, Compete, or Collect. The food which was further developed in Card Houses was known as Riancimento Nuncheon.

Before Rinascimento cuisine had emerged Deulers generally ate candy, macaroni and cheese, instant ramen, and potato chips. Others interested in Fantasy tended to eat whatever was at home or had take out food. Snacks and Fast Food were the base of their diet. It wouldn't be until Rinascimento cuisine began that people would take an active role in creating their own food.

The Geek Movement had helped form something people could call Rinascimento cuisine. The list of what would be appropriate of the theme would begin to develop and compile in hawaii for the reason of making a cuisine that was representative of a more modern cuisine. Initially when research was being done about food in the Middle Ages of Europe diets consisted of Bread, Stews, Soups, Cheese, Fruits, Nuts, Limited Meats and Vegetables. Diets lacked vitamins A, C, D, and Fiber. The first step to creating Rinascimento cuisine dealt with keeping in some of those themes, but adding more meats, vegetables, and balance to the diet for a more healthy alternative than its historic influence.

Ingredients

The ingredients which were chosen are not all completely authentic and exact to medieval recipes. Many of the food is not common in modern day super markets. It is said they often baked alot and cooked with olive oil. Some tastes are not glorified such as Swan and Beaver.

Many of the fruits which were glorified during the medieval period are mostly only found in Tellus cuisine. Some of these fruits were Quinces, Pears, Grapes.

Rinascimento Ingredients

Many of the authentic ingredients which were used in the medieval time period are still used today. Rinascimento glorifies certain ingredients which still exist, but are not widely known.

Rinascimento Sauce

Sauce is one of the quick ways people identify with a culture. These are some of the sauces which are used in Rinascimento cuisine. Many of them consist of meat based sauces, however there are varieties of other sauces available. Some you might notice are cheese and cream based sauces.

The sauces used in Rinascimento differ greatly from the medieval time period, since fruits and sweetend flavors were found to be much more favorable back then.

Afulliend Sauce (old english: the fuller)

Calcrond Sauce (old english: with shielding shoe of horses)

Woglinde Sauce (Similar to the old english word waeglioende which is Seafarer)

Tolkien Sauce (the last name of historic fantasy writer John Ronald Reuel Tolkien)

Galdor Sauce (old english: a wizard, enchanter, or soothsayers spell, song, incantation, or enchantment.)

Development of Rinascimento Cuisine

Developing Rinascimento Food

Food...we need it to survive. The ingredients as well as the recipes for how we prepare food always has a story of how it is aquired, what is consumed, and who prepares it as well as who consumed it. Its a very important thing that helps people communicate who they are and where they come from. However, many people historically often times struggled with obtaining enough food for survival. Back in the middle ages people didn't have the luxury of dining in restaurants or having all the foods we find at our local super market regularly available. Back then they lived on cereals, oats, and berries. Sometimes if they were lucky they would have milk, cheese, and enough money for some bread to put on the table for the rest of their family. Food was not easy to come by.

Rinascimento at its roots pulls much of its inspiration from medieval cuisine. Thus the research in exploring the food trends of medieval cuisine had to be done. Looking into the history of Medieval cuisine is like looking at a mixed bag of multiple European cultures during the middle ages. To develop a cuisine based on certain elements from the middle ages and renaissance time periods as well as modern day contemperary cuisine was going to nothing but new from what were use to seeing. Something spectacular and different.

History of Medieval Food

The history of medieval cuisine is said to have begun being recorded by King Richard II  placed in medieval england near 1377 with the first cook book in medieval england. The first time period was the Early Middle Ages, the second was the High Middle Ages, and the third was the Late Middle Ages. This means many recipes have not had a mass recording till the the High Middles Ages to the Late Middle Ages.

Early Middle Ages (c. 900-1000) Dark Ages

The eating habits of people were based on rank. Royalty would get all the best food, while peasants would get whatever is allowed of them. More of the common foods were Barley, Oat, Rye, Fava Beans, and Wheat. Prepared foods would be eaten too, bread, porridge, gruel, and pasta.

High Middle Ages (c. 1000-1300)

Late Middle Ages (c. 1400-1500)

Rice grain and Potatos made their introduction during the late middles ages. You can often times see these as stable foods in europe.

The Chief of Food

The Cook back in the middle ages was more like a captain in charge of an army of helpers. There were numerous titles of people who assisted him in the cooking process. Sauce makers, Mincers for grinding spices, Pluckers to pluck the birds, Boners those who would strip meat bear from their carcasses, Spit boys who helped shoot air at the fire, Roasters who would watch the roast to make sure it was cooked correctly.

King Richard II assigned a scry to listen to the chef and record all the recipes of the medieval diet.

Rinascimento Food Infuences

It was said that the time periods from the 5th-16th century that the food and diets of the time had helped lay the foundations for European Cuisine. Thats alot of cuisines if you think about it. There might be at least 80 plus cuisines. Thats alot of choices to see how to make an update of contemperary cuisine. I looked at the main contributing countries and designs on which Rinacsimento is based and the history of what I read about medieval food. It pointed at the European countries of Italy because of the Pasta, Cheese, and Oil, France for its use of Sauces and Breads, and the United Kingdoms for its modern recipes which have many similar recipes to the ones found in the middle ages.
